Recommended Paints, Stains & Finishes

The right product is the one that matches the surface, the conditions, and the way you plan to use the space. Here is how we think through those choices with homeowners.

01 / Paint

Paint for the way a room is used.

For most interior walls, we look for a quality acrylic-latex paint with dependable coverage, clean touch-up, and a sheen that suits the room. Kitchens, baths, trim, and high-traffic areas may call for a more washable, harder-working formula.

02 / Prep

Primer is a problem-solver, not a shortcut.

A bonding primer can help a new coating adhere to slick cabinets or previously finished surfaces. Stain-blocking primer can keep old marks from returning. The recommendation depends on what the surface is doing before paint goes on.

03 / Stain

Choose a deck stain that fits the wood.

Penetrating stains can help protect outdoor wood while keeping its grain visible. The right transparency, color, and water resistance depend on the deck’s exposure, age, previous coating, and how much upkeep you want to take on.

04 / Finish

Finishes protect the work after the color is right.

Wood floors, cabinets, doors, and furniture each ask something different of a topcoat. We consider durability, sheen, dry time, and how the surface will be cleaned before recommending a finish.

  • Use the product system made for the surface
  • Allow full cure time before heavy use

05 / Homeowner tips

A few product habits prevent rework.

Keep a small labeled record of the color, sheen, product, and room where it was used. Test a sample in the actual light. Do not mix systems casually, and never coat over a surface that is damp, dirty, or still failing.

06 / Guidance

Bring the surface question to us.

Product labels cannot see the room, the weather, or the history of the wood. If you are unsure what to buy, we can help you think through the surface first and choose a product that has a fair chance to perform.
